Brief History Svitzer (formerly Svitzer Wijsmuller) is part of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group and is the largest single towage company operating in the UK with vessels stationed at all the major ports.

Over the years, Svitzer has taken over many of the towage companies operating in ports around the UK and acquired their fleets. These include Red Funnel Towage, Cory Towage, Humber Tugs, Clyde Shipping, Howard Smith Towage, and Tees Towing Company.

In April 2007, Svitzer Wijsmuller officially took over Adsteam and acquired their fleet of vessels. Wijsmuller was dropped from the company name and it became simply Svitzer.

Svitzer now operate a fleet of more than 550 vessels worldwide.
